About the Event Two days of discussions on the development of the First Nations Policing legislation.

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is honoured to host the third National Policing Forum on May 2-3, 2023. The Forum will be hybrid with options for First Nations to participate in-person and virtually via Zoom.

The National Policing Forum will host plenary and dialogue sessions to discuss the development of the First Nations Policing legislation. This Forum is an opportunity for interested parties to participate in the discussion on the First Nations Policing legislation that recognizes First Nations policing as an essential service.

The virtual forum will bring together invited panelists and participants to discuss First Nations policing as an essential service and provide an opportunity for First Nations peoples, First Nations leaders, First Nations police officers, experts, among others to consider options in the development of a legislative framework for First Nations policing as an essential service in advancing AFN Resolution #07/2021, “Creation and Implementation of Legislation for First Nations Policing as an Essential Service”.

  • First Nations persons with knowledge and experience with First Nations policing and the First Nations Policing Program (FNPP)
  • First Nations police officers, technicians with an interest in policing, law, community safety and other related areas

Please note that there is no registration fee and breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided onsite to Forum participants on day 1, with breakfast and lunch provided on day 2.

The AFN invites you to register for the National Policing Forum May 2-3, 2023, in-person or virtually.

The National Policing Forum will be held in a hybrid format, meaning, all attendees have the option to join in-person or online. All participants are encouraged to pre-register. See below steps to register:

  • Register ONLINE at www.afn.ca. You will receive a confirmation email.

  • ON-SITE registration will be available at the Westin Calgary Airport Hotel in Calgary AB.

Accommodations

The Assembly of First Nations has arranged for a block reservation at The Westin Calgary Airport. The Room Rate is $229.00 per room, plus applicable taxes and fees.

The cut-off date to make reservations under the block reservation is Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
