Ottawa, ON – The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is pleased to announce the appointment of Regional Chief Paul Prosper of Nova Scotia to the Senate of Canada.
Regional Chief Paul Prosper assumed the role of Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief for Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in September 2020. A Mi’kmaw Lawyer and the former Chief of Paqtnkek, Regional Chief Prosper brings extensive experience in Indigenous legal issues, along with contributions in research, governance, and negotiation.
“It has been an honour to serve First Nations in my capacity as Regional Chief for Nova Scotia,” said Regional Chief Prosper. “I take pride in the advancements we’ve made in the past several years, and I look forward to seeing the AFN continue its good work, guided by Chiefs, to address the needs of our people. As I begin my work in the Senate of Canada, I will continue to advocate for First Nations inherent and Treaty rights, from coast to coast to coast.”
Regional Chief Prosper began his Senate appointment on July 6, 2023. The AFN extends its congratulations to Regional Chief Prosper for this outstanding achievement.
