About the Event Virtual Regional Focus Group Series on Long Term and Continuing Care
Gathering Goals
- Highlight the AFN’s progress and position on the reform of the AL and FNIHCC Programs.
- Discuss the priorities of reform and the existing gaps within the AL and FNIHCC Programs.
- Explore the scope of potential policy recommendations to create a wholistic continuum of care.
The AFN’s primary objective for the focus groups is to further discussions from the First Nations-led engagements conducted between 2021-2022, funded by Indigenous Services Canada, and to identify existing gaps within both programs. The focus groups will also identify First Nations-determined priorities to inform the co-development of recommendations to reform the AL and FNIHCC Programs to meet the needs of First Nations and reflect the Seven Generations Continuum of Care Framework.
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is mandated through AFN Resolution 44/2022, Co-Development of Policy Options with Indigenous Services Canada for a Memorandum to Cabinet on the Wholistic Long-term and Continuing Care Framework, to co-develop policy recommendations to reform the Assisted Living (AL) and the First Nations and Inuit Home and Community Care (FNIHCC) Programs.
