About the Event Overview
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) will host the Cannabis Virtual Town Hall on November 22, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. – to 3:00 p.m. ET. The Cannabis Virtual Town Hall will be held online via Zoom.
The Cannabis Virtual Town Hall will host plenary and dialogue sessions to discuss the legislative review of the Cannabis Act, Health Canada.
Objective
The Cannabis Virtual Town Hall aims to bring together First Nations leaders, Health Canada officials, and technical experts to discuss updates on the cannabis industry and review the relevant legislation. The primary objective of the event is to explore and showcase the services and supports available for encouraging First Nations participation in the industry. The discussion is scheduled for Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
This event will provide a platform to discuss the jurisdiction, First Nations policing, financial analysis for legislation implementation, and other regional topics. We welcome you to join us in advancing AFN Resolutions.
Register Now- Recognition and support of First Nations’ right to exercise complete jurisdiction over cannabis cultivation, processing and retail operations in First Nations territories (Resolutions 54/2019, 02/2018, and 90/2018).
- Frameworks and incentives that support First Nations’ participation in the cannabis sector while respecting autonomy and sovereignty (Resolutions 54/2019, 90/2018, and 123/2016).
- Direct benefit coverage for cannabis for medical purposes (Resolution 03/2017).
- Support of cannabis as a part of a global Indigenous culture and rights (Resolution 48/2019).
The virtual town hall will provide additional input for the expert panel in their review and final report, which will be tabled in Parliament in March 2024.
