About the Event AFN Regional Engagement Sessions on Bill C-53: An Act Respecting the Recognition of Certain Métis Governments in Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) will be hosting four (4) online regional engagement sessions on Bill C-53, An Act Respecting the Recognition of Certain Métis Governments in Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. These sessions will provide an opportunity for First Nations leadership and technicians to share information, views, and activities on Bill C-53, to access legal and technical presentations, as well as support interventions that will ensure the protection of First Nations inherent, Treaty, and section 35 rights. Participants are encouraged to bring forward amendments to the Bill, in alignment with AFN Resolution 81/2023, Urgent Protection of First Nations Inherent and Treaty Rights from Ongoing Illegitimate Rights Assertions.
