(June 12, 2024 – Unceded Algonquin Territory, Ottawa) – Today, Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak extended her congratulations to the newly-elected Ontario Regional Chief Abram Benedict. The election took place during the Chiefs of Ontario Annual Chiefs Assembly, where Ontario Regional Chief Benedict was elected through a traditional stand-up election.
“I am pleased to congratulate Ontario Regional Chief Abram Benedict and welcome him to the AFN Executive Committee,” said National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak. “Regional Chief Benedict has a long history of leadership for First Nations, previously serving as Kawehno:ke District Chief and most recently, Grand Chief of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. I look forward to working with Regional Chief Benedict to advance our shared priorities.
I would also like to thank outgoing Regional Chief Glen Hare for his dedication and service to the AFN Executive Committee over the years. His leadership in critical areas such as safe drinking water, health, housing, and infrastructure has been crucial to advancing our Nation’s priorities. It has been an honour to serve First Nations alongside Regional Chief Hare. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
