About the Event Special Chiefs Assembly – Long-Term Reform of the First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) Program.

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) will host the Special Chiefs Assembly (SCA) on Long-Term Reform of the First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) Program from October 16-18, 2024, on Treaty No. 7 Territory, in Calgary, Alberta.

The SCA will focus on discussions and decision-making regarding the Draft Agreement related to the long-term reform of the FNCFS Program, where Chiefs and Proxies will have an opportunity to deliberate on and vote on the proposed reforms.

This event, re-scheduled from September 2024 based on feedback from Chiefs during regional engagement sessions, will feature expert panels, presentations, and discussions related to the Draft Agreement on long-term reform.

Registration is now open for the Special Chiefs Assembly on Long-Term Reform of the First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) Program taking place from October 16-18, 2024, at the BMO Centre on Treaty No. 7 Territory, in Calgary, Alberta.

Note: If you registered for the SCA previously scheduled in September, you must register again for the new October SCA. For information, please contact [email protected].

Accommodations and Travel

The AFN will book and pay for the travel and accommodations for one Chief or Proxy from each First Nation to attend the SCA. In order for travel and accommodation to be arranged and paid for, you must register through the AFN website.

Registered Chiefs and Proxies will be contacted by Corporate Traveller within 72 hours (3 business days) after registering to finalize their travel arrangements. If a Chief or Proxy has not heard from Corporate Traveller within the specified timeframe, they are encouraged to reach out to Amy Brennan (contact details attached).

Chiefs and Proxies are encouraged to register by September 27, 2024, to allow us time to arrange travel and accommodation.
