(January 29, 2025 – Treaty 1 Territory, Winnipeg, Manitoba) — Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak issued the following statement congratulating the newly elected Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC) Grand Chief Kyra Wilson:
“On behalf of the Assembly of First Nations, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Kyra Wilson on her election as Grand Chief of the AMC,” said National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak. “Grand Chief Wilson’s leadership will play a key role in advancing the priorities of First Nations in Manitoba and supporting our important work across the country. I look forward to working with Grand Chief Wilson on our shared priorities.”
“Congratulations to Grand Chief Kyra Wilson on her election. We look forward to working alongside Grand Chief Wilson to continue advocating strongly and bringing forward the issues mandated by Chiefs-in-Assembly in Manitoba,” said Manitoba AFN Regional Chief Willie Moore. “I also want to acknowledge the other candidates for their dedication and commend them for conducting their campaigns with respect and integrity.”
“We also take this moment to remember and honour the late Grand Chief Cathy Merrick, who passed away on September 6, 2024. As the first woman to lead the AMC, her contributions to the well-being of First Nations people in Manitoba and beyond will always be remembered,” concluded National Chief Woodhouse Nepinak.
