Returning Officers
Each federal electoral district has a Returning Officer assigned by Elections Canada. Returning Officers are responsible for organizing and overseeing the election in their area.
Band administrators are encouraged to contact the Returning Officer in their electoral district to request an on-reserve polling station for the 2025 Federal Election.
Returning Officers are provided with clear guidance from Elections Canada on managing voting procedures within First Nations. By working with your Returning Officer, voting arrangements can be adapted to meet the specific needs of your community.
If your community has been affected by displacement, such as from evacuation or emergencies, Returning Officers can help with mail-in voting or setting up temporary polling stations to ensure people can still vote.
To find your Returning Officer, visit Elections Canada’s website or call their information line at 1-800-463-6868.
