(Ottawa, ON) – Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Perry Bellegarde today congratulated Nova Scotia /Newfoundland Regional Chief Morley Googoo on his re-election by Chiefs in the region on Friday, March 10 in Halifax.
“I offer my sincere congratulations to Regional Chief Googoo on his re-election to the AFN National Executive,” said National Chief Perry Bellegarde. “He has been a strong voice for First Nations rights and traditions in his region and for First Nations across the country. He is a champion for education and reconciliation, and dedicated to ensuring Canadians understand our shared history so we can work towards a better future. I look forward to continuing our work together to build stronger First Nations in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland regions and across the country.”
Morley Googoo has been NS/NFLD Regional Chief since 2011. National Chief Bellegarde has asked Regional Chief Googoo to serve on the AFN Management Committee and assigned him to the portfolios on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Sports and Recreation, Youth Council, Language, Culture & Arts and Canada 150. He is Mi’kmaq from the Waycobah First Nation located in Unama’ki (Cape Breton), Nova Scotia.
