(August 14, 2024 – Unceded Algonquin Territory, Ottawa) – Assembly of First Nations (AFN) National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak released a statement to congratulate the successful candidates of Nishnawbe Aski Nation’s (NAN) election for Grand Chief and Deputy Grand Chiefs.
“It’s my pleasure to extend my sincere congratulations to Grand Chief Fiddler and the Deputy Grand Chiefs,” said National Chief Woodhouse Nepinak. “Grand Chief Fiddler has been a longstanding leader for NAN with an incredible record of creating positive change for First Nations. His work to reform police services and advocate for First Nations jurisdiction over policing, his advocacy on behalf of youth and their wellness. I thank Grand Chief Fiddler for what he has done and look forward to what he and his Deputy Chiefs will do in the future.”
“I also congratulate and lift up Deputy Grand Chiefs Anna Betty Achneepineskum, Bobby Narcisse and Mike Metatawabin,” continued National Chief Woodhouse Nepinak. “These Deputy Grand Chiefs have each dedicated themselves to advocacy and leadership, and I wish them all the best as they carry out NAN’s priorities in the months ahead. It will be my honour to work alongside all of you.”
