(July 2, 2024 – Unceded Algonquin Territory, Ottawa, Ontario) – The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) will host its Annual General Assembly (AGA) from July 9-11, 2024, in Montréal (Tiohtià:ke), Québec, on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Kanien’kéha Nation. This year’s theme for the AGA is “Strengthening Our Relations,” which will serve as the foundation for discussions in dialogue sessions, plenaries, and caucusing.
The AGA will bring together hundreds of Chiefs, First Nations leaders, Knowledge Keepers, Elders, youth, women, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals from coast-to-coast-to-coast to discuss and deliberate on First Nations priorities and direct the work of the AFN and the Executive Committee through resolutions. Attendees will receive updates from AFN councils, presentations on First Nations policing, Specific Claims, Charter Renewal, and Bill C-61, First Nations Clean Water Act, as well as updates on the status on long-term reform to the First Nations Child and Family Services Program and Jordan’s Principle.
