(September 13, 2026 – Treaty 7 Territory, Calgary) – National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak released the following statement in response to the acclamation of BC Regional Chief Terry Teegee ahead of the British Columbia Assembly of First Nations (BCAFN) Assembly taking place in October.
“On behalf of the Assembly of First Nations and the AFN Executive, I extend my warmest congratulations to Regional Chief Teegee,” said National Chief Woodhouse Nepinak. “His strong and decisive leadership over previous terms has led to momentous wins for First Nations. Regional Chief Teegee played an instrumental role in the development and passage of BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, legally affirming our right to self-determination and other protections.
His leadership has supported advancements in justice. The BC First Nations Justice Strategy is now a crucial resource to support justice reform from coast to coast to coast. Regional Chief Teegee has taken strong stands against fearmongering and misinformation that attempts to undermine our rights and has spoken loudly against Indian Residential School denialism. He is and always will be an exceptional leader. I offer Regional Chief Teegee my best wishes for his upcoming term, and I look forward to working closely with him to advance First Nations rights and priorities in BC and beyond.”
