(December 12, 2024 – Unceded Algonquin Territory, Ottawa, Ontario) – The Assembly of First Nations has issued an open letter to all Members of Parliament urging them to support and prioritize the advancement of Bill C-61, First Nations Clean Water Act.
National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak is calling on Parliament to focus on advancing this long-overdue legislation to ensure clean drinking water, a basic human right, for all First Nations. First Nations require the Bill be referred to the Senate Standing Committee on Indigenous Peoples (APPA) before Parliament breaks for the holiday season.
