About the Event AFN Education Forum

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is pleased to host the in-person AFN Education Forum – “Reigniting the Flames of our Ancestors,” on February 19 and 20, 2025 in Toronto, Ontario. The forum will focus on unique practices in First Nations education, the continuum of lifelong learning and how to support learners at all stages, and First Nations control of First Nations education. The forum will offer delegates an opportunity to learn from experts from across Canada and share ideas or initiatives that advance First Nations control of First Nations education.

Workshop and panel discussion topics may include:

  • Advancing First Nations control of First Nations education
  • Supporting First Nations languages in the classroom, Immersion Education
  • Unique initiatives in First Nations education
  • Supporting Learners at all stages of life (including Adult Education and Post-Secondary Education)

Overview

The AFN Education Forum – “Reigniting the Flames of our Ancestors,” will focus on unique practices in First Nations education, the continuum of lifelong learning and how to support learners at all stages, and First Nations control of First Nations education.

Objectives of the Forum:

  • Share best practices and promote change in First Nations education
  • Through focused presentations and facilitated dialogue, participants will have the opportunity to learn from First Nations educators and experts about unique practices in First Nations education and lifelong learning.
  • Throughout the Forum participants will have an opportunity to engage in discussion, exchange ideas, formulate new relationships, and share experiences.
