About the Event First Nations National School Food Summit
The AFN is pleased to host the in-person First Nations National School Food Summit, taking place May 27th and 28th, 2026 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The summit will showcase current practices, approaches, and challenges in delivering food programs in First Nations schools. Participants will develop a greater understanding of how First Nations school food programs operate, the barriers and solutions that already exist, and the diverse cultural practices surrounding First Nations school food programs.

Objectives of the Summit
- Highlight examples of the diverse needs of First Nations school food programs across Canada
- Provide an opportunity for participants to engage in dialogue, exchange ideas, network and develop new relationships, and share their experiences and successes as they relate to school food programs.
- Assess the successes and gaps of existing funding sources supporting First Nations school food programs.
- Develop an AFN First Nations School Food Program Report to advance the AFN’s advocacy for adequately funded school food programs that meet First Nations’ real needs
