About the Event Virtual National Focus Group on Long Term and Continuing Care
Gathering Goals
- Bring together First Nations partners involved with the Assisted Living (AL) and the First Nations and Inuit Home and Community Care (FNIHCC) Programs.
- Highlight the AFN’s findings from the regional focus group series and outline the next steps for the work.
- Discuss the draft policy recommendations, building on the First Nations priorities of reform and proposed resolutions to the existing gaps within the AL and FNIHCC Programs as identified through the regional focus groups.
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is hosting a Long-term and Continuing Care (LTCC) Virtual National Focus Group. The national event will be a vital follow-up to the recent virtual LTCC Regional Focus Groups held in late July and early August. The National Focus Group will provide a platform to discuss the findings from the regional focus groups, share the proposed draft policy recommendations, and outline the next steps for a Wholistic Long-term and Continuing Care Framework.
Register NowThe AFN is guided by AFN Resolution 44/2022, Co-Development of Policy Options with Indigenous Services Canada for a Memorandum to Cabinet on the Wholistic Long-term and Continuing Care Framework, and AFN Resolution 59/2023, Call for Extending Indigenous Services Canada’s Timeline for Developing the Long-term and Continuing Care Framework. These two mandates commit AFN to seek additional time to consult with First Nations on the priorities for reform and explore policy recommendations to transform the AL and the FNIHCC Programs.
The National Focus Group will identify and reaffirm the First Nations-determined priorities. Engaging dialogue will revolve around proposed policy recommendations for the development of a Wholistic Long-term and Continuing Care Framework. This framework aims to ensure the delivery of long-term care services and programs meet the needs of First Nations and embrace the Seven Generations Continuum of Care approach, especially for our priority populations.
