About the Event National Natural Resources Forum

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) will host its Natural Resources Forum on March 12-13, 2025, on the unceded and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Under the theme “Empowering Future Generations through Self-Determination,” the AFN National Natural Resources Forum invites First Nations Chiefs, community members, economic development and natural resources officers, technicians, industry representatives, government officials, non-governmental organizations, and thought leaders to engage in facilitated dialogue, networking, and information sharing on natural resources.

Call for Presenters

If you are interested in presenting at the AFN National Natural Resources Forum, please submit a synopsis of your presentation, including how it relates to the conference theme “Empowering Future Generations through Self-Determination,” along with presenter biographies. Each submission may include up to three presenters.

Submission Requirements

  • Synopsis of 200 words or less
  • Presenter biographies of 100 words or less (up to three presenters per submission)
  • Submit electronically to [email protected] with the subject line: AFN Natural Resources Forum

Submission Deadline: January 31, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. ET

Please note that submissions may be edited for length in conference materials, both digital and hard copy. Successful applicants will be notified by February 15, 2025.

Objective

The AFN National Natural Resources Forum will bring together First Nations leaders, Natural Resources Canada, and First Nations technical experts to receive important industry updates and engage in dialogue.

The objectives include exploring and showcasing supports and services for the inclusion of First Nations participation in the natural resources, energy, and forestry industries.

We invite you to join us as we continue advancing the following AFN Resolutions:

Who should attend the National Natural Resources Forum?

  • First Nations Chiefs or their representatives in the natural resources, energy, forestry, or economic development sectors.
  • First Nations organizations and technicians working in or interested in natural resources, energy, and forestry policies.
  • Industry, academia, and other non-governmental entities involved in First Nations and natural resources, energy, and forestry issues.
  • Federal, provincial, or territorial government representatives.

The AFN invites you to register for the National Natural Resources Forum March 12-13, 2025.  All participants are encouraged to pre-register. Please note there is no registration fee.

  • Early bird registrations will be entered into a prize draw for attendees of the AFN National Natural Resources Forum.
  • Register online. You will receive a confirmation email.
